Daniel McCoy

Associate Attorney since 2018
Santa Rosa, California

Attorney Daniel McCoy joined Terre Family Law as an associate attorney in November 2018. Dan brings with him a breadth of legal experience, including Family law experience, that makes him a valuable resource to the firm and its clients. He practices exclusively in the area of Family Law.

Dan worked as a Law Clerk for Sonoma County Department of Child Support Services ("DCSS").  At DCSS, Dan had direct contact with clients and made appearances in court in front of the Child Support Commissioner prior to becoming licensed as an attorney.  Dan negotiated settlements for DCSS and narrowed the issues for litigation.  He also prepared pleadings and communicated with parties about their case, all under the supervision of the lead Child Support Attorney.

Dan has always had an interest in law,  public policy, and how government action affects the lives of real people. His service in the Navy sharpened that interest and led him to pursue a career in the law. He attended Empire College School of Law, from which he received the Witkin award for academic excellence in Remedies before graduating with honors.

Dan enjoys problem-solving and having the opportunity to work with clients to understand and address their legal challenges. He receives great satisfaction from helping clients navigate the court system in a way that serves their best interests and those of their family. Dan takes pride in helping families achieve the peace and financial stability they need.

Dan's strengths include his clear, straightforward legal writing and his ability to explain complex concepts in an understandable way, which clients especially appreciate. His strong communication skills make him effective in arguing a client's position before a Family Law Judge or Commissioner. Dan takes pride in paying great attention to detail and is always committed to doing a thorough job with whatever task lies before him.

When not practicing law, Dan enjoys sports, including skiing and spending time outdoors enjoying the beauty of Sonoma County with his wife and two young children.
